Painting and drawing are a passion of mine that began when I was a kid traveling the world with my family. We lived in some fantastic locations and were surrounded by beautiful landscapes, people and art. It was easy to fall in love with all forms of artistic expressions in the great museums around the world. Art and its history grew on me. Among my favorites were the Impressionist and Pop-Art painters. Playfulness and use of colors were always a source of inspiration.
As a student, I learned everything I could about the visual arts from fine art to commercial and graphic arts. At first, I did a lot of fine art painting, then later, book and TV illustration and won awards for paintings in Hawaii in the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Hawaii Watercolor Society and Castle and Cooke Corporate Art Collections and many more private collections.
Later, came a Graphic Design degree from a Design Program at Philadelphia College of Arts now known as University of the Arts led by graduates from Schule für Gestaltung Basel in Basel Switzerland.
I worked in Philadelphia and New York in design and advertising and came back to Hawaii to help found the first virtual advertising and interactive media firm. I spent years here with awards in hand from advertising, design and interactive media.
After developing many TV commercials, ads in print and interactive marketing for online services, I began to look back on my earlier days in art and ponder a return to it.
This time with a new direction in the digital paint realm.
Just as Pop art lends itself to visual trends from previous decades, I have fashioned a Pop-Impressionist style to envision a more illustrative blend of contemporary photographic art trends from the digital world.
Every piece involves up to 60 layers of painting that blend together into a final work of art.
I hope you enjoy these graphic impressions that I am now thrilled to share with you.
